Meet Paramedic Kristy Cowie

Paramedic Kristy Cowie is a member of the Anishanabe (Algonquin) Nation from Renfrew County on Golden Lake, near Petawawa.  Known as the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, these First Nations people reside on the south side of the Bonnechere River in the Ottawa Valley.

Kristy says that according to family lore her Grandfather married the then Chief’s daughter and she still has close relatives living in the area.

She has been a paramedic at Toronto Paramedic Services for five years working primarily in the North East district.  She took her college diploma at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall and is currently an agent in the SCC (Staff Communications Centre).

She has a two-year-old son and is expecting a second child soon.  Once her children are old enough she will share their Anishanabe heritage with them.  Her son currently enjoys watching Indigenous programming on TVO!
